Jamaica West walks the audience through a vivid chronology of her experience growing up as a black girl – and then young woman – in America. She remembers her childhood, reimagines the pulse of urban neighborhood life, and replays the words spoken to her as she grew from a girl to a woman. She shares nostalgia, confusion, and pain. She says, “We were born in America but maybe we’re still searching for a place to call home.” This is “Black Girl Cinema”.
